Running in top quality events on Crater Block map, while enjoying the thermal wonderland of Rotorua and Taupō, is a fantastic opportunity for all keen orienteers. “One of the best Nationals maps in decades” is how the mapper has described Crater Block.

Well-known orienteer Alistair Cory-Wright has already booked his tickets – “the combination of close-planted, runnable forest overlying the myriad of gullies cut into the volcanic soil will make for a super fun, challenging, and memorable weekend.

Iconic and renowned for its intricacy is how Marquita Gelderman has described Crater Block – “a myriad of complex gullies combined with rocks and multiple vegetation types made it one of those areas that if you mastered it, you felt on top of the world. I can’t wait to go back there!

Tim Robertson, New Zealand’s own orienteering Sprint world champion, is setting the Sprint event at Crown Park in Taupō, spending time on the map when recently back in NZ.
